Millers Creek Boy Scout Troop 399
Come Join the Fun & Adventure of Boy Scouting. Want to learn about camping, hiking, water sports, nature, gps, first aid, map and compass, and more?
Scouting is for boys ages 10 1/2 to 18. Boys must be at least 10 1/2 and/or have completed 5th grade. So, if want to have fun, camp, hike, develop leadership skills, are cooperative and want to learn, then Scouting is for you!
Frequently asked questions…When does the troop meet? We meet each Wednesday night from 7-8 pm at the Wesley Outreach Center (old Millers Creek Methodist Church).Who are the leaders? Scoutmaster – Arthur Lankford; Larry Caudill & Dee Caudill 921-3372; Burl Lankford 973-4252; Mack & Mary Lankford 838-5011; Wade McInnis 667-7406; Bruce Faw 667-4993; Daniel Vickers 973- 8984. We have attended training courses on scout leadership and have several years experience in scouting. The boys are always well supervised. What does the troop do? Scouting by nature consists of many outdoor experiences. We go camping, hiking, swimming, canoeing, orienteering, and teach many other outdoor and nature skills. We stress safety, group participation and cooperation, leadership, duty to God and country, and development of positive values._When do you go camping? We usually camp one weekend per month from February through November. We go to summer camp for a week usually the second Sunday in June. We consider scouting to be ministry for boys and we always conduct a youth message on overnight outings._How much does it cost? Membership dues are $15/year, payable each March. This covers accident insurance, awards, and basic supplies. Camping trips cost between $15 and $20 each, depending on where we are going. We often take a long weekend trip in the spring; cost is usually $50 to $100. Summer camp cost is around $200.00 (scholarships are sometimes available). Scouts may reduce the cost of summer camp or pay for it completely based on their sales during the Council’s annual popcorn sale. What about equipment? We ask that boys not buy equipment or pay membership dues until after camping with us at least once – just in case they don’t like scouting. Let us help you select the equipment needed. We can save you money and find better quality. Expect to pay at least as $150 if you buy “all the works.”
